Our Story & Mission
From a single rooftop hive to a citywide movement — we're proving that sustainable beekeeping thrives in the urban jungle.
It Started With One Hive
In the spring of 2019, Maya Chen — a former environmental scientist and lifelong bee enthusiast — placed a single beehive on her Brooklyn apartment rooftop. She expected a small experiment. What she got was extraordinary honey and a discovery that urban environments can be surprisingly rich for pollinators.
The diverse mix of urban gardens, park trees, window boxes, and community plots created a honey unlike anything she'd tasted. Within months, word spread — and Urban Hive Co. was born.
Today, we manage over 25 rooftop apiaries across the city, each producing distinct honey varieties that reflect the unique botanical fingerprint of their neighborhood.
Building a Bee-Friendly City
Our mission goes far beyond honey. We're working to create a thriving urban pollinator ecosystem that benefits everyone — from the bees that pollinate our food to the communities that enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Bee Health First
We never over-harvest. Our bees always keep enough honey for themselves.
Zero Waste Operations
From compostable packaging to beeswax byproduct repurposing, nothing goes to waste.
Community Education
Over 5,000 people have attended our beekeeping workshops and school programs.
What Drives Us Every Day
Everything we do is guided by our commitment to sustainability, quality, and community.
Sustainability
Every decision — from hive management to packaging to delivery — is made with the planet in mind. We're certified carbon-neutral and working toward carbon-negative by 2027.
Quality
We obsess over every jar. Each batch is lab-tested, traceable to its source apiary, and packaged with care. Our honey is raw, unfiltered, and never blended with anything artificial.
Community
We partner with schools, community gardens, and local businesses to promote pollinator health. Every purchase supports our free education programs and hive sponsorships.
